HISTORY OF THE MORAVIAN CHURCH/ HISTORIA DE LA IGLESIA MORAVA

In 2010, the Moravian Church celebrates 553 years of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and serving people throughout the world.

Here are some “key words” to describe our heritage as a community of faith:

Evangelical
We focus on the saving love of God revealed in Jesus Christ. We emphasize a “religion of the heart”, a daily, personal walk with the Savior, and growing in faith, hope and love.

Ecumenical
We accept the historical creeds of Christianity, cooperate in witness and service with other churches and welcome believers of all traditions to our worship.

Historical
We are one of the oldest Protestant churches, founded in 1457 by followers of John Hus, a reform-minded Czech priest (d. 1415).

International
We have 700,000 members in over 30 countries. The largest numbers of Moravians are found in places such as Tanzania, Nicaragua, South Africa, and Suriname (South America).

Mission
We began organized mission work in 1732. We share the Gospel in word and deed and minister to the whole person - body, mind and spirit -- through schools, clinics, social service agencies and ongoing programs of care in and for our communities.

Lati-Now

Greetings brothers and sisters. My name is Tracy S. Robinson, born in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. As a pastor in the Moravian Church, I've been given the amazing opportunity to share in a new ministry here in the city of Bethlehem, PA (located in the Lehigh Valley). This ministry is in response to the needs of the hispanic community, the third largest and fastest growing ethnic group in the state of Pennsylvania. The Moravian Church Northern Province has been the key proponent of this new ministry. Our wish is to continue to immerse ourselves in this wonderful and very diverse community. As a fellow latino, I can appreciate the desire of the Moravian Church to be of service to this community, becuase of its long missional church history. The Moravian Church has not only been known as a missional church, but also as an indigenous church. The Moravian Church has always been at the forefront of chuch history when it comes to building the body of Christ in an environment which allows the community to be fully integrated. As a Christian and a Moravian I could say that, I am very proud to be part of this Moravian Latino Ministry.

If you live in the Lehigh Valley and have ideas on how the Moravian Church can most effectively serve this community, please feel free to contact me at:
